SUBJECT: YOUR BVNW PTO Weekly Update - October 9 2025

It's All About our Students!

Why do we do what we do? To make sure our Students have positive high school experiences and pride for their school. It's our Mission!

WHAT'S NEWS

When the "Booster Club" transitioned to a "PTO" this year, the Board was excited to expand our efforts to support our students: not only academically - by expanding our grants to enable a stellar academic experience - but also Student Activities. We hope to involve even more students like in our new Student Day Out. Come to our meeting on October 14th to learn about - and share your ideas for - more student-focused activities.

NEW!!! Student Day Out

Send your kiddo to hang out with friends, eat pizza and play games. The PTO is sponsoring our first "Student Day Out" during their day off of school. A win-win for students and their parents!

Bring a BVNW Student ID for free entry, 4 hours of fun including a $10 game card & lunch (from 12-12:30p) - all paid for by the PTO!!! The event will be held from 11am to 3pm on Monday, November 10th at Main Event, 11950 S. Kansas City Rd, Olathe KS.

Please click HERE to sign up (to give us an idea of headcount) and to enter to win free stuff (must be present to win).

Applauding our VP of Activities!

None of this would be possible without our awesome VP of Activities and Membership, Katie Scheibel. A HUGE thank you to Katie for not only overseeing our recent tailgates but also for her work on publishing the School and Student Directory (see content preview below)! The Directory will be an invaluable resource distributed to all PTO Members and Donors this month (if you aren't yet a Member, click HERE to purchase a Membership and support your PTO). She is also planning on providing treats for students, organizing the senior luncheon and more!!

Support our Fundraising!

While "Invest in NW" donations support grants, other fundraising enables our initiatives like Teacher Appreciation and Student Activities. We try to focus on practical fundraising programs like: Concessions, Yard Sign and Spirit Wear Sales, Chick-Fil-A promotions and the upcoming Kendra Scott 'give back' night (scroll for more details). We are also planning a Parent Trivia Night on Saturday, February 7th. Save the date - more details to come!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Our School Nurse still needs 2-3 more volunteers to help coordinate Hearing and Vision Screening on Monday, October 27th. Check-in time for volunteers will be 7:30am for a start time of 7:45am until 11:30am. Email Kristin at tx_prego@yahoo.com if you can help out.

DECA Volunteers are needed to judge the student presentations at the upcoming Eastern Regional Competition to be held at the JCCC on October 29th from 8am to noon. No prior experience is necessary. Over 80 BVNW students will be competing - and building their skills - by preparing and presenting business-related "case studies." Please sign up HERE if you are able to support this event.

Love to throw a great party??? We need just one or two more to help plan our Trivia Night Fundraising Event. Email Chantel Hull at chantelehull@gmail.com if interested.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

Kindness Rocks!

A PTO Pop-up grant helped our art department start a "Kindness Rocks" program outside of their classrooms. According to Ms. Kimbrough, painting kind messages on rocks to be displayed in a 'rock garden' benefits the BVNW community by:

  • Learning empathy and how words/visual messages can lift someone up,
  • Enabling students' self-expression and feeling of contributing, and
  • Fostering school pride and unity.

Check it out on the SE side of the school near the drop-off area.

Reviewed Grant Requests with BVNW Administration

Final approval will be made during the PTO meeting on October 14 at 6pm. Mr. Richards will attend and can answer questions related to need. If you would like to support our Grants Program directly, click HERE to donate to "Invest in Northwest."
