SUBJECT: YOUR BVNW PTO Weekly Update - November 20 2025

AN ABUNDANCE OF THANKS!

The BVNW PTO Board is so very grateful for our Members, Donors and Volunteers! We wish you and your families a bounty of blessings this Thanksgiving and beyond!

Supporting our BVNW Community

NEW! TEENS IN NEED (T.I.N.) Program Launch

Removing financial barriers so every student can play, learn and belong.

Based on suggestions from several Members, the PTO is starting a "Teens in Need" or T.I.N. program under the umbrella of our Sunshine Committee, led by our awesome Claire Croutch.

What is it?

The purpose is to give all BVNW students the opportunity to participate in academics, sports, performing arts, and school-sponsored activities regardless of financial circumstances. We hope to cover essential costs like equipment, uniforms, and participation fees for example, to help remove financial barriers preventing student engagement. In our minds, every student deserves the benefits of academic and enrichment programs: it's a win-win for the whole BVNW community!

How does it work?

The PTO will gather requests from school staff such as Counselors, Social Workers, Teachers/Sponsors and publish them in an anonymous LIST OF NEEDS so the PTO and the BVNW Community can step up to fulfill these needs.

The PTO will seed a fund dedicated to fulfilling these needs but this will not be enough.

How can you help?

You can help by donating money to the fund or purchasing items off the list.

Make a monetary donation that will be used to purchase items on the list or pay for participation fees. Click HERE and select "T.I.N. Donation" to donate directly to the fund or drop off at the BVNW front desk a check made out to BVNW PTO with "TIN Fund" in the notes.

Donate items from the list

  1. Click the LIST OF NEEDS
  2. Select something on the list to purchase or donate,
  3. Email BVNWPTO@gmail.com to log the donation and then
  4. Deliver the item to the school's front desk marked for "T.I.N.".

Check back monthly as new items are added.

If you know of a student who has been excluded from a class, sport or activity based on ability to pay, please encourage them to contact their Counselor or Program Sponsor to make a request.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

Our PTO President attended a Blue Valley District Meeting where she learned about the District's and Board of Education's priorities and projects. A few highlights:

Coming on the heels of their Phone Policy, the BV District has formed an AI Committee and is working towards policies related to - and appropriate classroom uses for - the new technology.

Our BOE's Legislative Priorities include:

  • Establishing a fair and equitable school finance formula to counteract the fact that the BV District receives less state and federal funding per pupil than nearly every other Kansas district.
  • Funding special education as the BV District receives even less than the 92% of funding required but has one of the highest percent of special education students in Kansas given the quality of services provided.
  • Increasing safety and well-being in schools through not permitting concealed carry on ANY school grounds - including those outside of buildings - and providing funding for school security enhancements and mental health resources.
  • Supporting recruitment and retention of highly qualified staff through improving the retirement provisions to be more competitive with neighboring states, prioritizing salary increases and finding solutions to rising employee health care costs.

To learn more visit bluevalleyk12.org/legislative.

A District representative reviewed the policy on bullying and efforts to prevent and report incidents. Individual schools create their own plans to comply with District Policy and Guidelines for prevention, education, reporting and response. You can provide your own feedback HERE
