VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Our School Nurse still needs 2-3 more volunteers to help coordinate Hearing and Vision Screening on Monday, October 27th. Check-in time for volunteers will be 7:30am for a start time of 7:45am until 11:30am. Email Kristin at tx_prego@yahoo.com if you can help out.

DECA Volunteers are needed to judge the student presentations at the upcoming Eastern Regional Competition to be held at the JCCC on October 29th from 8am to noon. No prior experience is necessary. Over 80 BVNW students will be competing - and building their skills - by preparing and presenting business-related "case studies." Please sign up HERE if you are able to support this event.

Love to throw a great party??? We need just one or two more to help plan our Trivia Night Fundraising Event. Email Chantel Hull at chantelehull@gmail.com if interested.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

A BIG thank you to our Staff Appreciation Committee: Candace King, Stephanie Walters, Meghan Gatoff and Tricia Wolverton for the awesome teacher treats to kick off their training on October 10th.

PTO Meeting Highlights

  • Mr. Richards gave an update on sports and activities and his efforts in putting up awards banners and plaques in the Main Gym and commons area - including a potential school-PTO partnership to purchase a digital Hall of Fame Board. New programs like Girls Wrestling are going well as is Boys Volleyball although the latter is not yet KSHAA sanctioned. There is interest in a future Girls Flag Football team as well. Mr. Richards is pleased with the bigger turn out at events and is working on getting even more students involved.
  • Grants that aligned with program guidelines were approved. Although they went over budget, creative accounting and pull ahead of funds from Spring Grants bridged the gap. We initially received 14 requests for nearly $20,000 total which is a record!
  • The Board and Members approved a "Teens in Need" program (under the Sunshine Committee) with the goal of ensuring that all students are able to participate in academics, sports, clubs and activities without regard to ability to pay. The needs will be fulfilled in two ways: PTO will publish an anonymous "Wish List" for tangible items needed (specific gift cards, calculators, etc.) and will seed a fund to pay for other items like activity fees. More information to come.
  • Other Updates:
    • Concessions income is lagging budget due to tailgates and fewer playoff games. However, additional fundraising efforts should exceed budget and make up for budget shortfall.
    • Directory is going to print and 600 copies will be printed for PTO members/donors and staff. There will be a few extras for future members/donors.
    • PTO will be asking parents to donate a portion of the 200 pies needed to give to teachers and school staff for Thanksgiving since this request was not previously budgeted.
    • New fundraisers were announced: Kendra Scott, Raise Right gift cards and a date for Trivia Night: Saturday, February 7th.
  • The next meeting will be Monday, December 1st at 6pm at Coaches followed by a reception.
